Newcastle
Upon Tyne

Newcastle Upon Tyne is a city on the North East of England. Named after the Norman castle in its centre, the city can trace its history back to Roman times with remnants of Hadrian’s Wall still visible, alongside a medieval cathedral and impressive Victorian buildings.

Being in the heart of the city, Newcastle University has great access to all of the attractions of the city, as well as to the town of Gateshead, which sits across the River Tyne and is connected to Newcastle by seven bridges.

Together, NewcastleGateshead forms a diverse and extremely vibrant visitor destination.

We hope that as well as attending GCS 2018, you may be able to extend your stay.

Visit the NewcastleGateshead website for ideas of things to do, whether in the city, wider Tyne and Wear region or in the ancient kingdom of Northumbria with its rolling countryside, stunning castles and beautiful sandy beaches.
